Annual Report : 2019 -2020

Jayaprakasam, Heads and staff members of various departments, Non – Teaching  staff members, my dear student friends, brothers and sisters very good morning to one and all

I feel privileged to present this action filled annual report : 2019 – 2020 of our college (Shift I) today (28.02.2020) in this august gathering. I took charge as Principal on 09.05.2019. The senior professors Dr. A. Srinivasan, HoD of Commerce and Principal i/c up to 08.05.2019 and Dr. V. Chandrasekar, HoD of Chemistry were retired from full-fledged service on 31.05.2019. Ms. M. Arachelvi, Secretary, Pachaiyappa’s Trust issued their relieving orders on the same day.

Seventeen Guest Lectures in Shift I and 48 Assistant Professors in Shift II were appointed in the month of June 2019. The appointments were made on the basis of conducting interview by following the instructions of the President of Pachaiyappa’s Trust, Chennai – 600 030.

Our college was reopened on 17.06.2019, after summer vacation, as per the directions of Director of Collegiate Education.

Faculties :

Our college is having B. A. Economics, B.Com. General and        B. Sc. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics under aided stream. In Self – Financing stream, we have B. Com. General and Accounting and Finance, B. Sc. Computer Science and Chemistry, B.C.A. and B. A. English Literature.

Admission :

Students admission was done by strictly following the government rules and regulations. In this academic year, 250 students were admitted under aided stream and 410 students were admitted under self – financing stream. The total strength of our college this year is 2156.

Induction Programmes :

 As per the directions of University of Madras, Induction programme was organized for the I year students to familiarize the campus for shift I students on 20.06.2019 and shift II students on 01.07.2019

University Examination Results :

In the November – 2019 University Examinations, about 75% of our students have passed in their I, III and V semesters. I proudly say many of our students secured centum in their major and allied papers

Association Activities :

In order to improve the personality of our students, all the departments of our college have organized Association programmes.

As a part of Association activity B. Sc. Chemistry, B. Sc. Physics and B. A. Economics have conducted intra – department competitions to their students, Dept. of Mathematics has organized an inter-collegiate competitions for colleges in and around Chennai and Dept. of Commerce has organized an entrepreneur career development programme for their students. All the departments have encouraged their students to participate in popular lectures and competitions organized in other institutions. The Department of Chemistry has arranged an educational tour for their students.

Doctoral Degree :

Dr. C. Sampath, Head and Assistant Professor of Telugu, Dr. K. Kalpana, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and  Dr. S. Mahalakshmi, Librarian have received their Doctoral degree during this academic year.

Ms. J. Yamuna, Guest Lecturer, Department of Commerce has cleared NET examination in NTA on December 2019.

Research Activities :

  • P. Sekar, former Principal and HoD of Mathematics of Our College convened 2 Ph. D. viva voces.
  • R. Natarajan, former Head and Associate Professor of Economics convened 1 Ph. D. viva voce.
  • This year 7 students have applied for Ph. D. degree under the guidance of Dr. P. Murugakoothan, Dr. P. Sumathi and S. V. Arun.
  • Three students received their Ph. D degree and 5 Students submitted their Ph. D. thesis this year under the guidance of various research guides of our college.

As a part of research activity development, our staff member are actively engaged in publishing research articles in peer reviewed scopes indexed journals, participating and presenting their findings in various conferences, seminars and workshops. Based on the merit of our staff, they were recognized as resource persons for many of the programmes organized by other institutions. Vilayattu Ulagam journal was subscribed for life time for the development of research activities in sports.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) :

 In the history of our institution, for the first time, our institution has signed 3 MoUs with other institutions & concerns with the permission of our President, Pachaiyappa’s Trust. The first one is with SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur under UGC – Paramarsh : Mentor – Mentee scheme to gain NAAC for our institution. The second one is with News 7Tamil Anbupalam for social activities and the third one is with Mahindra Pride School for Placement.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)  :

IQAC was formed with Dr. P. Sumathi, HoD of Mathematics as Coordinator. Steering committees related to seven criterias of NAAC were formed and the members of this committee along with IQAC coordinator attended a workshop on NAAC at SRMIST, Kattankulathur on 23.01.2020

Conduct of Workshops :

I feel proud to inform that the following workshops were organized this year in our college

  • Workshop on NAAC” by IQAC on 27. 07. 2019
  • Workshop on Growth and Characterization studies on Non – Linear Optical Crystalsby the Department of  Physics under the sponsorship of Indian Science Congress Association, Chennai chapter on 01. 10. 2019.
  • Workshop on Office Management” by our office on 19.10.2019.

Cultural Competitions :

Both English and Tamil departments have conducted Annual Inter – Departmental competitions for the academic year 2019 – 2020 from 07.12.2019.    

National Service Scheme (NSS) :

The four NSS Units of our College are functioning well. They involved in traffic regulation activities at Anna Nagar roundana and K4 Police station signals in association with Chennai traffic police for over two months, campus cleaning works at our college, University of Madras and Our adopted Greater Chennai corporation school, Aminjikarai, Organization of Independence day, Republic day, Induction programmes, food mela and so many other programmes  in our college. Our NSS Students have participated in several competitions organized by various institutions and participated in several awareness rallies and programmes. Our NSS volunteers saved many life’s by donating their blood.

NSS Special camp was organized at soolameni village during 09.02.2020 to 15.02.2020. During this Camp, our NSS students were involved in plantation cleaning of schools, hospitals roads, Water bodies and other places in and around soolameni village, Conducted various awareness rallies and programmes and blood donation camps.

Rotract Club :

Rotary club of Arch City Madras was install in our college on 29.08.2019. In association with NSS and NCC units of our College Rotract club has organized one day orientation programme for staff, Eradication of polio, blood donation for Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital and Establish drip irrigation for our college garden.    

National Cadet Corps :

Dr. G. R. Ramkumaar, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Physics attended the training camp at OTA Kamptee from 03.06.2019 to 31.08.2019 and he became SUB LIEUTENANT of our NCC Naval wing.

Mr. R. Dineshkumar, NCC student, Department of Chemistry has attended the prestigious Marina Republic Day Camp in the month of January 2020. The other camps attended by our NCC students are       Pre-IUC camp, CATC cum RDC TRG camp, SCUBA diving camp Inter-unit competition training camp and CATC camp. They have participate in International Yoga day, campus cleaning activity, piloting the chief guests and associated with the organization of Independence and Republic days.

 Placement Cell :

Our Placement cell has signed MoU with Mahindra Pride School, Naandi Foundation on 30.10.2019 for training and placement of our students. Placement Cell has conducted several on and off campus placement drives. The following are some of the major programmes conducted by our placement cell,

  • 5 Passed out Students were selected in the off campus drive by ICICI bank
  • Personality development programme by “Udhavi Society”
  • 84 Students were selected as digital home sales officers for JIO company
  • 12 Students were selected in an on campus drive by samarath learning solutions
  • 45 students were selected for skill development training programme under Prime Minister Kaushal Kendra Scheme by Roomen Technologies
  • Placement drive is going on Continuously and expected many more students will be placed in these drives
  • Placement cell has placed 146 Students in various private sector

In addition placement cell has conducted skill and personality development and career building workshops for our students.

Sports and Games :

 The President, Pachaiyappa’s Trust has issued an order to grant 100% tuition fees waiver for outstanding sports persons by our efforts. There are 11 students from various departments have received merit award of this academic year. Our college Volley ball, Badminton, Kabaddi, Cricket and Football teams have participated in University of Madras B – Zone tournaments and secured third position in both Ball Badminton and Kabaddi. Our Foot Ball team became the runners in DRBCC trophy. Annual spots day was conducted on 08.02.2020. The Department of Economics has won the overall championship.

Our College is Institutional member of Physical Education Foundation of India.

Other Activities :

  • TNPSC Group IV coaching was given to our Students
  • Independence day was Celebrated on 15.08.2019
  • Health club was inaugurated in our college on 06.09.2019
  • Ayudha Pooja was celebrated 04.10.2019
  • Pongal Festival celebrations was organized on 11.01.2019
  • Traditional Mega Food Melas were organized in association with News 7Tamil Anbupalam. Thiru. Thyagachemmal, Joint Editor of News 7 Channel was a Chief. Guest for Food Mela (Social Cause) for the Shift I Students.
  • Republic day was celebrated on 26.01.2020
  • Parents Teachers meeting for the whole college was organized with the overwhelming response of the parents on 15.02.2020
  • Designing of new website for our college with International Standards is under progress

I feel very proud to say that many of our programmes were covered by Media, Especially News 7Tamil Anbupalam, Anna Nagar Times, Malar News, Polimer TV, Tamilan TV, Media News, Maalai Tamizhegam etc.,

Discipline :

All the Staff members have cooperated well with the principal to maintain good discipline in the college campus and to achieve our prime motto of “Character through Punctuality”

I Whole heartedly thank the Management teaching and Non – Teaching staff member for their over support in bringing our Success in all our activities if this Academic year 2019 -2020.
